Letters from St. Louis - #2

Vision
It was a day before my first day teaching. I was nervously prepping for the morning with my co-teacher, Jeehee. Both of us had never taught before, and this teaching position was definitely not what either of us signed up for. What should I teach the kids? Will I be effective in teaching them about what I’m supposed to be teaching? Will they be able to retain any of the information that I will be presenting them, especially during devotions? Those were only a couple of the many questions running through my head. The morning came, I met the four kids that would be attending class today, and I stood in front of the chalkboard. Out of nowhere, I began talking about the five senses, how vision worked, and the parts of the eye. Not that I wasn’t prepared to present my material, I wasn’t expect myself to present it in such a fluid and smooth form. I definitely have room to improve my lessons and add more hands-on activities, but God is amazing and the Holy Spirit literally spoke through me that morning. It is really cool to watch how God uses his followers to love on others. This experience was God’s vision of using me to love on these kids, who yearn so much to have someone notice and get to know them. I cannot wait to see what else God has planned for me, our team, and these children!

Hi y’all! So I just finished my first week of teaching. I teach Monday to Thursday and it’s been getting better with each day. The first day of teaching was super tiring and difficult, but by Thursday, I was rolling along like I’ve had prior experience. The kids are frustrating and wonderful at the same time. It’s like an analogy for being a follower of Jesus. At times it is frustrating because we are called to give up everything, but it is amazing because it is worth everything. I love these kids that I am teaching and I look forward to seeing them grow in their knowledge about Jesus as well as the human body. Yesterday (Saturday) was our free day of the week, so I got to enjoy some of St. Louis’ food and thrift stores. I ate some good Mexican tortas and saw some awesome retro 80s stuff! I gotta go do some lesson planning now for the this week, so I’ll keep you guys updated again next Sunday! Thanks for reading!

On a side note, I’m still in need of some monetary support to fulfill my fundraising requirement. To those who have already contributed, I thank you so much for your support! But for those who haven’t, I encourage you to think about it! And whatever you contribute makes a huge difference. As always, this definitely is not an obligation because I would be more than grateful for your prayers. God provides! If you do feel called to give, you can go to the link provided here and do your thing: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=STZG5AS7TDR5L. You can also send checks in to CityLights directly. Just make sure they’re written out to “InterVarsity Christian Fellowship” with my name in the memo. These can be sent to:

Please continue praying for:
- God will work within us to create new relationships with these kids and teach them about his love.
- For the kids to have open hearts and minds when hearing about Jesus.
- Keep the entire team here at CityLights energized and motivated to be doing God’s work.
- For St. Louis and God’s work in his city.

Thank you again for all the love, support, and prayers! I love you guys! :)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ~Matthew 6:33
