Letters from St. Louis - #1

Dennis’ Weekly CityLights St. Louis Newsletter! - #1

Departure
I ran to gate 13 with only a minute to spare. Looking at the clock then to the gate door, I wondered to myself why it was no longer open. From the corner of my eye, I saw my plane pull out of its parking spot. Did I just miss my plane? I stood in shock for 5 minutes, not knowing what to do because I’ve never missed a flight before. After relcaiming my sanity, I walked over to the lady at the gate 13 desk and told her my situation. Praise the Lord because Lucile, the wonderful lady at the desk, was able to add me onto a flight that left 40 minutes later. Even in my fear and confusion, God calmed the seas and calmed my heart. To know that he is with me this entire missions trip from beginning to end is so comforting. I continue to learn about God’s goodness and grace, and this is but one example of many that are to come in the next few weeks.

Hello friends! I hope you enjoyed the short story of how God has blessed me this missions trip! Each week, I’ll be featuring a story of God’s demonstrations of his love for me, his people, and his city. And onto an update on what’s been happening in St. Louis! As you saw from the story, I did have some trouble getting to CityLights, but everything worked out! I’m a little bit behind on everything and am a bit confused about what is happening most of the time, but I’ve met the incredible team! I’ll be teaching human anatomy to 2nd-4th graders at the local church school with a teammate of mine! Many of the kids we are teaching are from refugee families and/or live in the inner city. We’ve been creating lesson plans. It’s a bit frustrating at times because I’ve never taught before. I miss all of you guys and I hope your summers are going well! Look forward to next week!

Some things that I would love for you guys to pray for:
- God will work within us to create new relationships with these kids and teach them about his love.
- For the kids to have open hearts and minds when hearing about Jesus.
- Keep the entire team here at CityLights energized and motivated to be doing God’s work.
- For St. Louis and God’s work in his city.

You can always give me a call/text/email and I’ll try my best to reply when I have some free time! You can also snail mail me at:

Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. ~Isaiah 58:9a
